The Beatles The Monkees and Fashion
In 1964, the Beatles made their first appearance on American television as guests on the Ed Sullivan Show. Estimated six million viewers, the largest in the history witness the phenomenon. After more than fifty years of their influence on fashion and music have always felt the heart.
Ironically, Davey Jones, another rising star appeared on the same show. He played "The Artful Dodger" in the Broadway smash "Oliver Twist." Two years later he would be selected for the first manufactured band response "The Monkees" Americas "to the Beatles. Countries using statistics have been entered into a computer and the selection was Davey Jones, Michael Nesmith, Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork, the first group built.
Unlike hearsay that they were all talented in their own right,
Peter Tork played keyboards in the original line-up of the band Crosby, Stills. He is competent on Banjo, and basic rhythm guitar.
Michael Nesmith had already won the talent contest, he was an accomplished guitarist and song writer worthy, credited for the song "Different Drum" Written Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Pony in 1966. He had a country influence the final, perhaps it was the birth of Country Rock, where Nesmith was accredited. Rolling Stone Magazine once called her albums with the first national group "Rock music's biggest country has ever heard." Mike had the idea MTV and sold the rights to Warner Brothers. It was also the first to win a Grammy for best music video.
Mickey Dolenz was a very successful child actor, not a very good drummer and reasonable to the guitar, but there is no denying his voice capacity. He co wrote some great rock songs as "No Time" and many jazz great "Goin Down" plus "The Song of replacement" top ten of which route to England.
Davey Jones is considered one of the greatest players of tambourine, a very able dancer, winning horse jockey, actor, singer, composer and artist the marvelous spectacle. Before teaming up with the Monkees, he had a recording contract and released a solo album.
So who said that the Monkees had no talent and not play their own instruments? The producers of the original albums for the Byrds ban most band members to play instruments on studio recordings, because they were incompetent.
In the late sixties the Monkees outsold the Beatles and Rolling Stones combined. They created a sign for all the following acts, manufactured. This marketing concept is still used today. Remember the "cream" Richard Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, in fact they were manufactured, hailed as the first super group, but the concept was for marketing and the brainchild of Robert Stigwood.
The Stigwood story is worth telling in itself, but very briefly, Another of his major discoveries was the Bee Gees. They are the only group in music history to match the top ten four consecutive years decades, 60's 70's 80's and 90's. The name is derived from two more letters in their names recurring; to Barry and Robin B and G Gibb. Barry Gibb as a composer and producer has sold nearly five hundred million records.
But at the end of the day, it was the Beatles winning above everything else, they were the trendsetters in the style of music and fashion. Here we are in 2010 and in the middle of the Renaissance style Beatle. The Children who were not even around in the sixties, seventies and part of the eighties are demanding suits with tapered pants legs, thin lapels, fitted shirts and skinny ties, they want to replicate the style of the sixties. But do not you love the Monkees and music series TV crazy?
The military jacket is back, paisley ties designer adorn the necks of respectable businessmen. Buttons cufflinks are back in fashion after being sidelined for more than thirty years. For mods silk pouches and lapel badges.
The style is constant.
